Welcome to my very first blog post!
I’m thrilled to share my story with you and give you a glimpse into the world of handmade crafts, block printing, and the wonderful community that has supported my small business journey.
My name is Naila, and I’m a block print artist originally from Pakistan, now based in London. My passion for block printing began as a way to connect with my heritage and has since grown into a business that allows me to share the beauty of this traditional craft with others. Every piece I create is handmade and hand-printed, reflecting the care, precision, and love that goes into every design.
When I first started my business, I used fabrics from brands like Cath Kidston and Laura Ashley. While I loved working with these materials, I always felt the need to make a mark as a maker and designer in my own right. After a few trials and much reflection, I decided to pivot my business to focus on block printing—a craft that truly represents my creativity and vision.
As a mum of four, balancing family life with running a business has been an adventure in itself. From late nights sketching designs to early mornings preparing for markets, every step has been worth it to see my creations come to life. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to win a few awards and be featured in publications celebrating inspiring Muslim women entrepreneurs, which have been incredible honors and sources of motivation. One of my proudest moments has been becoming a small business ambassador at the British Library, a role that allows me to inspire others in their entrepreneurial journeys.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of hosting block printing workshops at several locations Beaulah Studios, KukooLala Cafe, Kiran Support services and at my studio in Leyton Green, where participants can create their own unique pieces. These workshops have become a space for creativity, connection, and learning—whether it’s making tea towels and bags for Mother’s Day or simply exploring the art of block printing for the first time.
Markets and pop-ups have been at the heart of my business, giving me the chance to meet customers face-to-face and share my work directly. Some of my best-selling items include linen eye masks, gold mandala pouches, and lavender sachets, each one thoughtfully designed and crafted. Hearing feedback from customers who love and cherish these pieces is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey. I’m so grateful for the support of my community and customers who make this all possible. Stay tuned for more posts where I’ll share behind-the-scenes looks at my creative process, tips for handmade living, and updates on upcoming markets and workshops.
Until next time!
